S URABHI TRUST is a registered body having its headquarters at Kariapatti in Virudhunagar District is rendering service for the rural community of below poverty line in Kariapatti Block. Though the Trust focuses on various fields of Health, Education and Income Generation, it mainly gives importance on Education because of prevailing condition of school Drop Out students in this area. This SSA Scheme was promulgated by the Government of India in all over the country. This scheme was started with an aim to provide better education for children of the people of all walks of life especially for downtrodden and make sure that no children should be left out of the school in the middle period and they must complete school studies. The State government has taken over this Project and is implementing very effectively in a successful manner.

I n Kariapatti block it was brought to the notice of the Trust that there are some students, not knowing the exact number, discontinued their studies due to poor economical condition of family and other circumstances. Some children have been sent to work for supporting the family by their parents who never realize the importance of education and some have been rearing cattle in the village. The drop out students as well as the parents never feels that the life of the children is being spoiled when they go out of the school and takes support from them. Some students have left out of the village and migrated to the nearby town becoming petty criminals. These pitiable status of drop outs, attracted the attention of the Trust and decided to come forward with an intention to do something better for their future life.

S urabhi Trust, in Kariapatti, has resolved that the SSA Scheme would benefit the children of drop outs, if it is undertaken to implement in this area. The TRUST has immediately started to put into action of taking over Sarva Shiksha Abiyan Scheme by running a Residential School with boarding facilities. Applied with the Government, the Trust has submitted a proposal with all relevant documents expressing the willingness to take over the SSA scheme in Kariapatti. With the satisfaction over the proposal submitted by the Trust, the Government had approved for implementing the scheme in Kariapatti. Inaugural function of SSA Scheme was celebrated by the Trust in July 2011. For this purpose the Trust has started identifying the students, who stopped their studies for one and other reasons, in and around the block. It selected the students who are coming under Below Poverty Line and being the children of Widows, Destitute. The children who were selected have been taken to Residential School and enrolled as students. The school is running the classes from I to VIII Standard. The Trust has recruited the qualified training teachers so that it could provide the high standard of education. In the school they have been provided a good education with the qualified trained teachers. Apart from the syllabus they have been imparted the other activities such as games, drawings and moral values. They have also been provided accommodation in the school campus itself and given good and delicious food.

Tie Up Arrangement

The Trust has a Tie-up arrangement with Sethu Institute of Technology, a reputed Engg College located near Kariapatti. In collaboration with Sethu Institute of Technology the students were given training in Computer, Motor Mechanism, Welding and Lathe work.
